The Robert Pearson Collection: Porter Air Locomotives - Homestake Mine No. 14, South Dakota

Photos I took of Porter compressed air locomotive No. 14 used in Homestake gold mine in Lead, South Dakota.  Construction number 4163 was built 8/1908, 18" gauge with 5x8 cylinders, weighed 3 3/4 tons and had a wheelbase of 33".  The locomotive was one of the smallest compressed air locomotives used by the Homestake Mining Co.  Other locomotives of the same size were numbers 13 - 19 and 21 - 23.
